Sharing Tips for Living with Alzheimers
Would you be willing to share your tips on living with Alzheimers?
For our new book, Caring Moments, due out mid 2009, we would like to invite you to send in your hints or tips on caring, understanding and supporting people living with Alzheimers Disease, be they carers, family, friends or those diagnosed with the disease.
An example of a tip would be one that Pam has written for our ‘Retaining Independence’ section.
‘Attach an eye-catching key-ring to the door lever on the inside of the car door, this way there will never be any confusion as to which handle to pull to open the door.’
Below is a list of the topics for hints, but please don’t feel that you have to keep within this list, we are more than happy to have helpful suggestions on other Alzheimer-based areas as well.
Coming to terms with Alzheimer’s
Retaining independence
Trips away
Living in their world
Activities
Moving out of home
Saying goodbye
The general guidelines we would like you to follow for these hints are to keep them short and to the point, a couple of sentences should be sufficient in most cases. Just be aware that we may need to alter the wording slightly to fit the tone of the book.
To make sending in your ideas easier we have put together a form (below). Please be sure to fill in all the boxes because we would like to give you credit for the tip. However if you’re not comfortable including your whole name simply put your initials or ‘Anon’ in the appropriate boxes.
The current release date we are working toward for this book is mid-2009, so we would be grateful if you could get any tips to us by the end of 2008. If you have family or friends who you feel would also have worthwhile suggestions to include please feel free to encourage them to contribute.
